is live in san francisco with more on how students will honor the victims in newtown -- newtown, today. >> reporter: well, they plan to stand in solidarity with the students by wearing their school colors. behind me here, you can see there is a fence up around this school. that, of course, is gonna be the topic of discussion among a lot of school administrators. many schools have fences designed to keep intruders out. but if they get in, it's questionable how far they can get. california's superintendent expects more discussions about this. he's alerted all 1100 public school districts to reskew safety plans -- review safety plans. >> you minimize the risk as best you can. we can't live in fear and have every school be a closed fortress of some kind. it's a place of learning. >> reporter: some parents say sandy hook elementary had a locked door through the school but a gunman shot his way through it. state legislators say this is vulnerable. >> it's not gonna stop somebody if that's their intention. they obviously think about it and then go do it. >> reporter: as important as security,

inside a san francisco high rise. inspired the last federal back in july 1993. a former client of a law firm inside 101 -california street. went on a killing spree. nine people including the gunman died. six were wounded. the killer was armed with a handgun and two tech nine assault pistols. the federal ban that came out of that tragedy. expired in 2004. today, a survivor of that shooting spoke to kron4's maureen kelly about the massacre in newtown, and the renewed push for stricter gun control laws in this country. >> i was sitting in my office on the 36 floor on one, california. my secretary said that there is somebody on the party fourth floor with a gun that he is shooting people. that he is on the -- party fourth floor . >> my secretary said that he was on the 34th floor. sheldon siegal worked at the law firm targeted by the gunman .and lost many friends and collegues that day. >> what is upsetting is that it is still happening after 20 years later. it is almost like it is accepted as the regular course of events and that is a huge failure >>reporter: he says the massacre at sandy

to work. just watching an interesting computer model. it's been a deluge, awful travel in san francisco the last couple of days. for tomorrow, watch california, here comes a next system. so another day in san francisco and seattle with rain. by monday, the west coast clears out. but here's the little interesting nugget that could happen. on monday, watch what happens here in the gulf. moisture comes up from the gulf, an area of low pressure develops. this is the deep south. birmingham to new orleans to atlanta, could be a wet christmas. rain, not a white one. then we could see this area of low pressure develop, and it's from tuesday to thursday in the mid-atlantic and northeast, we could be looking at another storm. we'll have to keep our eyes on that model. forecast, though, for today, pretty blustery. watching us from the northeast, new york city could see a few snow showers coming down. but the winds are pretty strong. so it's pretty chilly. so some snow in western great lakes. of course, we're seeing that, the lake-effect snow guns firing off. another wet day on the west coast, rand

here out of san francisco where a tree, big tree fell on a car here with the rain. it's not just been the rain but we have seen very windy conditions with some of these storms. and even into san francisco headed into the higher elevation. we see winds gusting over 100 miles per hour. big problems there back to your first alert forecast for the day today. into the northeast. that white where you see the snow. don't worry about that that's very very light. could cause a little bit of a dusting. may be on some brings and overpasses. be a little bit careful as you are driving today. not going to be any big problems. down to the southeast, the nice conditions continue, a ton of sunshine. very comfortable temperatures. we need rain here. unfortunately it doesn't look like we are going to get any significant rainy time soon. but, try to enjoy the nice temperatures. into the northern plains, also i will tell you we are talking about temps well above average all across the eastern two thirds of the country. that's going to be the case here into the northern plains. out across the west today a
